THE GREEN SEA IN AFRICA

Lake Turkana formerly known as Lake Rudolf, is a lake in the Great Rift Valley in Kenya With a length of 318 km (198 miles) and a width of around 35 miles, and 109 meters in depth. It is the world's largest permanent desert lake and the world's largest alkaline lake, lake turkana water is of sufficiently high quality that can be consumed or used with low risk of immediate or long term harm, despite being in a climate which is hot and very dry with the rocks of the surrounding area being predominantly volcanic.
Three rivers (the Omo, Turkwel and Kerio) flow into the lake, but lacking outflow its only water loss is by evaporation. Lake volume and dimensions are variable. For example, its level fell by 10 meters between 1975 and 1993.
Due to temperature, aridity and geographic inaccessibility, the lake retains its wild character. Nile crocodiles are found in great abundance on the flats. The rocky shores are home to scorpions and carpet vipers. Although the lake and its environs have been popular for expeditions of every sort under the tutelage of guides, rangers and experienced persons, they certainly must be considered hazardous for unguided tourists.
Lake Turkana is a home to a number of species of native fish includes; African tetras, tilapia, elephant fish, the African knife fish among others. Also the lake inhabits a thousand of water birds native to Kenya such as; A number of species of native fish African tetras tilapia, elephant fish, the African knifefish Little Stinthe, Wood Sandpiper, common. African he White-necked Cormorant, Heuglin's Bustard and flamingos. The largest reptile’s concentrations are reported in this lake including turtles among large heard of African mammals.
