THE GREEN SEA IN AFRICA
Lake Turkana formerly known as Lake Rudolf, is a lake in the Great Rift Valley in Kenya With a length of 318 km (198 miles) and a width of around 35 miles, and 109 meters in depth. It is the world's largest permanent desert lake and the world's largest alkaline lake, lake turkana water is of sufficiently high quality that can be consumed or used with low risk of immediate or long term harm, despite being in a climate which is hot and very dry with the rocks of the surrounding area being predominantly volcanic.
Three rivers (the Omo, Turkwel and Kerio) flow into the lake, but lacking outflow its only water loss is by evaporation. Lake volume and dimensions are variable. For example, its level fell by 10 meters between 1975 and 1993.
Due to temperature, aridity and geographic inaccessibility, the lake retains its wild character. Nile crocodiles are found in great abundance on the flats. The rocky shores are home to scorpions and carpet vipers. Although the lake and its environs have been popular for expeditions of every sort under the tutelage of guides, rangers and experienced persons, they certainly must be considered hazardous for unguided tourists.
Lake Turkana is a home to a number of species of native fish includes; African tetras, tilapia, elephant fish, the African knife fish among others. Also the lake inhabits a thousand of water birds native to Kenya such as; A number of species of native fish African tetras tilapia, elephant fish, the African knifefish Little Stinthe, Wood Sandpiper, common. African he White-necked Cormorant, Heuglin's Bustard and flamingos. The largest reptile’s concentrations are reported in this lake including turtles among large heard of African mammals.

THE BEAUTY OF LAKE BOGORIA
Lake Bogoria is shallow (about 10 m depth), and is about 34 km long by 3.5 km wide, with a drainage basin of 700 km². Lake Bogoria is a saline, alkaline lake that lies in a volcanic region in a half-graben basin south of Lake Baringo, Kenya, Lake Bogoria, like Lake Nakuru, Lake Elmenteita, and Lake Magadi further south in the Rift Valley, and to the north, is home at times to one of the world's largest populations of lesser flamingoes. Lake Bogoria also contains the highest concentration of true geysers in Africa (at least 18 are known). The lake waters are alkaline and saline. The lake has no surface outlet so the water becomes saline mainly through evaporation, which is high in this semi-arid region. The lake area was the traditional home of the Endorois people, who were forced to leave the area in the 1970s. The lake is a Ramsar site and has been a protected National Reserve since November 29, 1973. There are varieties of animals like dik dik, impalas, elands among others, which is both prolific and tame.

AN ISLAND IN THE RIFT VALLEY
Nakuru means "Dust or Dusty Place" in the Maasai language. Lake Nakuru National Park, close to was established in 1961. Lake Nakuru is one of the Rift Valley soda lakes, covering an area of 180 km (73 sq miles). Is a protected under the Ramsar Convention on wetlands. Lake Nakuru lies to the south of Nakuru town, in central Kenya and is protected by a small Lake Nakuru National Park. it is best known for its thousands, sometimes millions of flamingos nesting along the shores due to abundance of blue- green algae in it. The park now has more than 25 black rhinoceros, one of the largest concentrations in the country, plus around 70 white rhinos. other animals includes Waterbuck , lion, cheetah , leopard large sized pythons that inhabit the dense woodlands, As well as other bird species that inhabit the lake and the area surrounding it, such as African fish eagle, goliath heron, hamerkop, pied kingfisher and verreaux eagle.

THE GREAT RIFT VALLEY IN KENYA
Great Rift Valley was formed about 20 million years ago, the earth's crust weakened and tore itself apart creating a jagged rift valley, approximately 6,000 kilometers (3,700 mi) in length, that runs from northern Syria in Southwest Asia to central Mozambique in East Africa, The land on either side erupted creating great volcanic mountains, while the valley floor gradually sank into a low flat plain. This geologic phenomena, dubbed the Great Rift Valley by the Scottish explorer John Walter Gregory who named it in late 19 th century, It is one of Kenya's characteristic features and divides the country in half, from north to south, with stunning panoramas and beautiful escarpment backdrops. This string of alkaline lakes and boiling springs in Kenya rift valley includes Lake Baringo, Lake Bogoria, Lake Nakuru, Lake Elementaita, Lake Naivasha, and Lake Magadi in the south. These lakes in Kenya are unique because their water is highly concentrated sodium carbonate. This creates an ideal breeding ground for algae and a thriving environment for fish, which in turn attracts millions of birds to feed on the abundant food supply. Each of the Kenya lakes has a different water composition ranging from freshwater to very saline and brackish, with different bird life attracted to each. This situation is caused by the high alkalinity from the surrounding volcanic rocks coupled with poor drainage outlets due to the steep sides of the valley. The high evaporation of the surface lake water results in sodium carbonate which, in turn, creates an ideal breeding ground for algae, also some different fish species in habits the lake for example tilapia grahami ,nile pearch among others.
